Johnson TOD9 Tube Overdrive Reviews 5

I've been playing guitar & bass for about 30 years now. 25 of which have been part time club bands, playing mostly hard rock , blues, classic rock & southern rock at times.

I saw this effect pedal on ebay ,got curious and bought one used for $35. I actually have been picking up alot of these lesser know overdrive unit just to try. I may leave more reviews of others in the future.

This pedal sounds very good and true to it's name. It's my favorite overdrive pedal right now. It's not muddy or buzzy, lets the tone of the guitar come through. Can be used as a volume boost with the drive control turned down. Or start adding some dirt by turning up the drive. Is sensitive to guitar volume pot. If you turn down for chords it cleans up. Also has tone & level control. PLUS a turbo/hot switch. The turbo side is where I leave it. I guess you could say it's the overdrive side which goes from mild punch to really overdriven. Then if that's not enough flip it over to the hot side. WOH ! Now your in heavy distortion & sustain. I popped it open to check construction and found it has the legendary Ibanez Tube Screamer JRC4558D chip inside. Nice.

So far , nothing.

It's made pretty well by todays standards for mass produced pedals. Metal box that is modeled after the Boss design but about an inch taller. Metal input jacks not mounted directly to the board, which is good. A/C adapter or 9 volt battery.

I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for an overdrive pedal that sounds like a TS9 Tube screamer and doesn't want to pay $150 & up. If it looks like a Boss and sounds like an Ibanez, It's a Johnson. Great sound & value.
